General Story

Coyolxauhqui, the Aztecs’ shattered moon, elder sister of the sun and sorrowful face of night, bears a name like falling silver, immortalized by defeat.
Daughter of the Serpent Skirt, she led the four hundred stars against the unborn sun in her mother’s womb. But her younger brother burst forth in flame, wielding a fire serpent. Moonlight struck flame, and the sky trembled. Defeated, she was dismembered, her head cast into the night sky. Her shattered body became the moon, forever hanging before dawn, chased by her brother day and night and fading gently into darkness.
She embodies the immortality of the defeated. Golden bells ring in the night wind, and every full moon bears her scar. The Spaniards came, and the cross veiled her silver light, yet she never died. She is the moon’s deepest rift, night’s testament to light. On moonlit nights, the sunken Aztec Empire still breathes faintly in her glow.
