Background Story

A Dark Star Rises

In Japan’s Sengoku period, Matsunaga Hisahide rose like a dark star. He reached the height of power, yet left behind a name stained by betrayal and fire. Later generations remembered him alongside Hōjō Sōun and Saitō Dōsan as one of the “Three Ambitious Warlords” of the era. He was also a master of the tea ceremony.

Betrayal and Ashes

Born from humble origins, Hisahide rose through cunning to become daimyo of Yamato Province. He struck down shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru, shattering the shogunate’s authority. When the Great Buddha Hall of Tōdai-ji burned to the ground, his name became forever linked with infamy.

A Master of Tea

Yet he was more than a villain. Standing alongside Sen no Rikyū, he was renowned as a tea ceremony master. He held two legendary treasures — the Hiragumo kettle and the Tsukumo Nasu tea caddy — rare beauty amid an age of fire and chaos.

Twice Betrayed, Twice Destroyed

Twice he submitted to Oda Nobunaga, and twice he rebelled. When Shigisan Castle fell under siege, legend says he packed gunpowder into the Hiragumo kettle and died alongside the treasure he loved most — choosing to destroy it himself rather than let it fall into enemy hands.

A Legacy of Merit and Sin

He slew his lord, burned temples, and shifted allegiances without hesitation — yet he also championed the tea ceremony, preserved priceless treasures, and survived by wit and ruthlessness alike. Merit and sin were woven together in him, just as they were in the age he lived through. What remained in his wake: a burned castle, a legendary kettle, and an echo that still lingers.

Lordslayer and Temple Burner: Increases ranged troops’ attack and defense by 60% and ranged troops’ HP by 45% when Matsunaga Hisahide is leading the army.
Ascend the general to unlock the following buffs:
  • 1st red star – Ranged troop attack and HP +15%
  • 2nd red star – Ranged troop attack +15% and defense +20%
  • 3rd red star – Reinforcing ranged troop attack and HP +40%; March size capacity +5%
  • 4th red star – Ranged troop and siege machine defense and HP +30%
  • 5th red star – Reinforcing ranged troop attack +60%; March size capacity +8%

Max-level Effect Specialties

  2. Bash: Ranged troop and siege machine attack +10%

One covenant can be unlocked for every 50 covenant stones, and these 6 covenants can only be unlocked sequentially.
Unlocking does not take effect immediately; the total basic attributes of Matsunaga Hisahide and his covenantized generals must reach a certain value before the corresponding covenant can be activated.

General’s Application and Strength Comparison

This general is currently the only ranged troop general in Evony with a large number of exclusive reinforcement attributes. Previously, when choosing reinforcement generals, we selected those whose skill descriptions ended with “leading the army” and whose attributes were mostly unconditionally effective. Therefore, we compared Matsunaga Hisahide with several generals who could previously be used for reinforcement.
